Origin: Lanquin, Guatemala

Gathered in sustainable practices just for the One World Cacao community, and as fresh as can be, we are so proud to welcome into our lineup of wellness and ceremonial offerings this incredible Copal smudge from the Lanquin region of Northern Guatemala!

This golden colored resin is hand foraged by an Indigenous women's collective who live close to nature and support themselves through the fruits of the land. Many of these women are raising their families alone or have overcome such hardships that many of us here in the west will never have context for. We are incredibly proud to purchase directly and support them.

Nature supports them, they support each other and we share the sacred medicines, the path is a circle.

The healing essences that come forth from this human-to-nature co-creative relationship carry forth to you, and will burn true in your smudge and spiritual cleansing. Uniting us.

Utilized for spiritual and energetic cleansing, Mayan Copal is burned upon charcoal in clay incense pots and accompanies any sacred gathering or ceremony. Copal is burned at birth and death, to rejoice and mourn, sacred smoke ~ serving as sacred gateways between the worlds. Our prayers and energies are carried to the spirit world through the smoke, cleansing and clearing with intention dense energies not needed (it is also wonderful for keeping pesky bugs and mosquitos at bay).

Its scent is heady and heavenly - both sweet and spicy, close in family to frankincense and myrrh, often you will find Copal `beads’ in markets that have been processed to reach this state.

We at One World Cacao burn Copal multiple times a week, for personal use and in ceremony. Copal is my favorite smudge in the world. There is something so potent and direct, yet graceful and gentle within its cleansing essence - unified energies of the whole.

To Use:

You will need a heat safe smudge pot, like an abalone shell or clay incense burner pot and charcoal rounds to burn your resin upon.

Your copal will stay soft if you keep it wrapped in its leaf, you can open it and pinch off small amounts to place on your charcoal round to burn.

If you cut off small pieces from your bundle and leave them out in the air to dry they will harden and will not be sticky to touch anymore. Practitioners preference…
